The warehouse is situated in Mt Verde, an Agricultural Estate in Hilton, with the structure that we built being used for a Macadamia Nut Shed.
We designed a 16 x 42 x 5.5 structure using 6-metre bay intervals to reduce overall material costs. The client bricked up 2500 of which the rest was cladded with 0.47mm Widespan Colorplus IBR sheeting. Colorplus was chosen as it is a premium product that can endure South Africa’s harshest climates, ensuring a building will have a considerable increase in service life, superior thermal protection, added aesthetic value, cost-effectiveness and eco-friendly credentials.
The twelve-degree roof pitch allows for a steady fall for rainwater to be harvested into storage tanks. Ridge vents were used on each bay to allow for good ventilation as they allow warm, humid air to escape and help keep the interior cool. The Alucushion insulation installed is a fantastic heat transfer barrier that is heat stabilised for durability and is effective in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 80°C.
Our design allowed for a large 4m wide x 4.5m high roller shutter door on the gable end, allowing enough clearance for delivery trucks.
