For the Bruntsfield Catholic Church it was important to build a strong roofing structure that would keep the premises, its worship team and congregation warm in the winter (by preventing heat from escaping) and cool in the sweltering Durban summer (by preventing heat from leaking in).
To achieve this, our team installed Alucushion as insulation beneath the 15 x 30 x 4 roofing structure we built, which was fabricated with 0.5mm IBR Chromadek steel and finished with two coats of Battle Ship Grey QD Enamel. We chose IBR sheeting as it is suitable for widespread use, and be cranked, curved and bull-nosed to customer specifications. Alucushion insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce energy consumption, control rising electricity costs and provide a comfortable worship environment all year long, which for the church was high on its list of requirements.
The roof’s pitch stands at 20 degrees to allow for a steady fall for rainwater to be harvested into storage tanks in time to come, and allow other debris to run off with ease thanks to its steep slope.
